About The Project

Pakistan has a long, rich and diverse heritage of art and architecture. The fluid geographical boundaries of Pakistan eased the free movement of people from one place to another. A number of traders, caravans and individuals came to northern areas having abundant of fruits and meadows, or Indus basin having a fertile land. The immigrants brought culture, knowledge, technology, religion, and the arts. Some of these ideas were absorbed by the local people which helped evolve new traditions. Each geographical region or cultural space has its own specific features in terms of geography and geology,
landform and climate and specific link to certain link to a particular trade route.
Therefore, different areas located in different trade routes have different design
tradition.

Naqoosh e Javidan is a project presenting images of jewels of architecture in Pakistan with
respect to time line and across regions. In addition, a brief description has also been
provided about the name of each monument, its time period, location and brief
description of its salient features.

The main objective is to promote research and publications, and a better understanding of heritage. It is hoped that in future the neighboring regions will also be added to better understand the cross-cultural influences and exchange of ideas and artistic traditions.
