Niwin Masjid

Material of Construction and finishes: Brickwork, lime plaster.

The mosque was built during the Sultanate period. It is a three-bay mosque. The central one is bigger than either two. Niwin Masjid in Lahore is one of the fine examples of hydraulic engineering. The site is twenty-five feet deep from the street level. The mosque is comprised of three bays of equal size and has low domes. The domes were supported on thick pointed arches which transformed the plan into octagons with pendentives. The main feature of the mosque is its disposal system rain and ablution water through two soakage wells to the subterranean water table level. This technology was used for the first time in the mosque architecture of Lahore
