Brief Description
: Emperor Aurangzeb reconstructed western wall of Lahore fort along with Alamgiri gate making it in alignment with the front façade of the Badshahi Mosque. The gate was built as a ceremonial entrance to the Fort from the forecourt of the mosque. The gateway is in perfect alignment of the entrance gateway of the mosque. The gate is characterized by a ‘softening’ of the Mughal style in its later years: the fluted towers flanking it rise out of carved lotus buds, and are topped by small kiosks. The gateway has bent entrance leading to Diwan-i Khas o Aam of the fort.
