The Hiran Minar complex is most outstanding monument in Shaikhupura near Lahore. It is a classical octagonal water pavilion of the design of the Sher Mandal in a large artificial tank, the corners of which are accentuated by small kiosks. The main pavilion is linked by a causeway rested on arches to a gatehouse. Further on the gate-pavilion lies Hiran Minar, a circular minaret built in the memory of emperors favorite antelope Manasaraj. The construction of Hiran Minar must have been completed sometimes prior to the occasion of first visit of Jahangir to the hunting resort on Tuesday the 12th Zilhaj, 1015 (March 31, 1607). The entire construction was carried out with bricks and finished with lime mortar. The construction of Hiran Minar and Jahangirpura fort was presumably carried out by Sikandar Moeen and on his death the project was given in the charge of Iradat Khan as Jagirdar and superintendent of construction at Jahangirpura. The emperor visited the hunting ground in his fifteenth reignal year on 25th Muharram 1030 AH (November 1621 AD) and appreciated the entire construction including the masonry tank completed at a cost of Rs. 1, 50, 000.
