The sarai Sadabad was built by Ali Mardan Khan during his tenure as Governor of Kashmir and Lahore. The Mughal Emperors, Governors and common people use to travel to Srinagar via Pir Punjal Pass. After crossing Gujrat, the first halting place was Bhimbar where a sarai was built on the order of Emperor Akbar. Ali Mardan built sarai’s enroute to Kashimir which includes Sarai Sadabad and Sarai Khampura during Sahah Jahan reign. After crossing Bhimbar the first sarari that comes of this route was Sarai Sadabad located in the smahni Valley in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The sarai had walled enclosure with impressive gateway and contained several rooms for the travelers. Each single room had a verandah/porch on the front and room at the back. Each room was covered with domical roof. Today the sarai is in dilapidated condition.
