The tomb of Nadira Begum, wife of Prince Dara Shikoh, the eldest son of Shah Jahan, is located in proximity to the Mian Mir tomb. Dara Shikoh served as governor of the Lahore suba during the 1640s. At the time of his wife’s death, Dara was on the run and fighting a losing battle for the Mughal throne. Unlike other Mughal tombs which were constructed in the middle of chahar bagh, Nadira Begum’s tomb is built amidst a water tank. The tomb rests on a high platform. It is square in plan and two-storied high. It measures 44 feet on each side. The plan is based on the four-fold pattern. In the center of each façade, there are two arches one over the other framed within double height. The arch on the ground floor provides access to the tomb chamber via a rectangular galley. The side rooms in the corner have a rectangular opening. The tomb chamber is 14 feet wide. There are square rooms at each corner. The main chamber is double-height. The soffit of the ceiling is decorated with tarseem bandi and finished with khat kashi.
