The tomb of Nawab Rashid Khan Bajauri is situated just outside the Ram Das Gate of Peshawar City in the Murshidabad locality. He was the son of Hatim Khan alias Sakhi Arab Khan, a Bajauri Dehqan who was the last governor of Khar City in Bajaur when it was a province of the Gibar State of Pakhli Sarkar (Kingdom of Swat). Rashid was brought to Peshawar by Babur, as a hostage after his conquest of Bajaur in 1519. Babur soon became impressed with the abilities of this youth and appointed him as his first Mughal Governor (Subedar) of the newly created Mughal Kabul-Peshawar Subah (Province). Since then, the clan descended from Rashid Khan has lived in the Mohallah Bajauri Khurd and Mohallah Bajauri Kalan localities inside Peshawar City’s Sarki Gate. The tomb is square in plan and has entrances on all four sides. The entrances lie deep inside the high pishtaq. On either side of the pishtaqs lies multifoil arched niches to break the monotony of plan façade. These niches are set inside the rectangular frame. In the interior the square plan is converted into an eight-sided polygon to support a drum which finally supports a hemispherical dome. The dome and drum are separated by a ring.
