Tomb of Saadatmand Khan

Material and Method of Construction: Brickwork and Plastered with Lime Mortar.

The tomb of Saadtmand Khan is one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture in District Mandi Baha ud Din. According to local tradition it was built by Qadir Khan during the reign of Shah Jahan. The structure was severely damaged by frequent floods, neglect and human vandalism. The tomb has square plan measuring 20 feet by 20 feet in the exterior and 12 feet 9 by 12 feet 8 inches in the interior. The plan and elevations are symmetrical in designs on all four sides. The main feature of the external facades are their four center blind arches incorporating rectangular openings to provide access to the tomb chamber. The arches are flanked by recessed panels on either side. in both interior and exterior. The entire construction was in brickwork plastered in lime mortar. Above the principal arches, squinch arches set within the thickness of the wall to form an octagonal base to support drum and dome above. There are recessed arches over the principal arches in between the squinch arches. The southern half of the dome has fallen due to lack or repairs.
