Brief Description

Between Rohri and Aror on the Nara Canal lies two unknown tombs, popularly known as Kamal ud Din and Qatal ud Din or Duagan and Suhagan. They were built sometimes during the late thirteen or fourteenth century. These tombs are unique in the terms of their architectural form and design details. The high drums and hemispherical domes is the most striking feature. The tomb of Kamal-ud Din has square plan, high drum and finished with hemispherical dome. The tomb was built in fair face brickwork as it has chain pattern at the base of the dome. All four sides have symmetrical design theme. At the corners flat brick pillars were created and were covered with composite bell-shaped capitals placed on triple discs. The space in between the pillarets and the corner pilasters, has been filled with an oblong frieze of a series of elaborate diaper, while the entire panel is bounded with a series of composite moldings at the bottom. The upper portion of the tomb is a highly ornate carrying frieze of decorative brickwork. It contains pseudo kufic calligraphy, cross pattern, lozenge, and chain pattern. The upper portion has similar pseudo Kufic calligraphy.

The second tomb has similar design theme. It has a high plinth comprised of several courses of lozenges and zigzag lines. The flat pilasters at the corners rest on the pseudo plinth since the floor level of the tomb is much lower. The capitals consist of three discs and bell shape capital. These two pilasters are connected horizontally with several courses of brickwork having chain patterns. The wall surface in between the pilasters has been divided into five parts separated with six pilasters. The central part incorporates the entrance. The spandrel of the opening arch has eight pointed stars and two courses of dentil brickwork. The two flanking panels on the either side of entrance have been treated.
